Reminiscences on the 13th October, 2020
Too much sugar!
- Mary asking her grand-daughter, at the end of a family meal in an Italian restaurant, having already enjoyed one cup of a Chantilly, to get her a second, with extra sugar in that one.
- Kevin, while at Lanercost, one of their favourite cafes, in addition to the Lemon Drizzle cake, said, 'I have five sugars to match the nature of my sweetness’.
- 'There's quite a babble in here. But we don't need to talk - we meditate.’
Driving
- Mary, the more confident of the two behind the wheel, taking the car up to 100mph to see what it would feel like.
- “If I had a Porsche, you wouldn’t see me for dust“.
Green fingers
- Mary: starving the cactus plant of water for months to take pleasure in the sounds it made when it eventually got a drink.
Music
- While Mozart was king for Mary, Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine was the first piece to make a real impression on her as to the power that music can have.
Holidays
- Mary leaving her handbag in a shop at the start of the Ravenglass holiday. Memories suggest that it was found by a girl who was deaf. Mum rewarded her with a 10 shilling note.
- Mary’s multi coloured squared stiff shopping bag.
