13th October 1951

Kevin and Mary were married on 13th October 1951.
Kevin had been brought up in a Roman Catholic family. While Mary's family religion had been Church of England, she had converted to the Roman Catholic Church. Mary and Kevin remained staunch members of the Church throughout their married life.
Their parish in Carlisle was Our Lady's and St. Joseph. However at the time of their wedding, the Church was undergoing refurbishment. Their wedding therefore took place at the Austin Friars' School Chapel in the Stanwix area of Carlisle.

Mary's father had died in 1945, after a battle with lung cancer. Her elder brother, James accompanied her to the Chapel to give her away.

The official photograph includes, from left to right:
Leo, Mary and Kathleen Rafferty, (brother and sisters of Kevin),
Hubert (Bert) Wilson, (Kevin's Best Man), Mary (Moya) Casey, Mary's bridesmaid,

James, Sarah and Margaret, (Mary's family members).
On the right hand side, Father Daniel Rafferty, another older brother of Kevin's.
Kevin’s parents were not present for the wedding. They had certainly been very unhappy when Kevin made the decision to leave Upholland Seminary after ten years training and just before making his final vows. However, in October 1951 his father was not in good health and died just over a month later, on November 16th.

Following their wedding, the couple headed for a honeymoon in Scarborough.
