As Easter approached, initially in Currock Road, the top of the  Brinsmead piano in the front room was used as the place to display the Easter Eggs which were given to the family. These were to look at and not touch.....until Easter Sunday arrived. At that point, inevitably it was simply a question of when they could be opened.

Before that, on Good Friday, there was an annual visit to Hart Street for tea, with hot cross buns being the high spot. These were prepared by Bella and Mick. Served hot, they were very moist, with a liberal quantity of butter.

Before then, the parents headed to Our Lady's Church close to Hart Street, for the then very lengthy Passion which seemed to take a couple of hours, but Kevin deemed this to be too long for the children.

In subsequent years, as the children grew, the tea was served once those who had gone to a Good Friday home game returned from Brunton Park.

Easter Sunday also was the day when the children had new sandals for the summer. After a visit to Timpson's in Botchergate in Carlisle, the sandals of choice were always Start-Rite. When straight out of the box, these sandals had white crepe soles. Playing football in them was not allowed, although, when back at school, the rule was often forgotten!
